Laraine Shape is a writer, humorist and Ohio Realtor.  She has been an advocate and member of the Citizens Commission on Human Rights since the early 1970′s. Her mission on this blog is to help expose psychiatry for what it really is (fraud, buffoonery, quackery, charlatanism and outright hucksterism) through the medium of humor.

Laraine first became aware of psychiatry’s industry of death as a young child during weekend visits with her paternal grandfather at the Toledo State Mental Asylum.  Many years later she learned he held the distinction of being the oldest patient (79) to have received and survived a series of brutal shock treatments (electro-convulsive shock), administered to help him “get over” the death of his wife.  And help him it did.  He went from being depressed into a lifeless, old man who didn’t know who or where he was most of the time.

Other psychiatric tragedies followed:

In the 1970′s a dear family friend and mother of two committed suicide after having been “treated” by psychiatrists for depression with insulin shock “therapy” and powerful anti-depressants.

In 2003 a close acquaintance of Laraine’s committed suicide by shooting herself in the head after having been “treated” by a psychiatrist for depression. She was on psych-prescribed anti-depression drugs at the time of her death and left 2 young, loving sons behind.

In May of 2006 Laraine was stunned to learn that Clarence (Jack) Saunders, a former friend from her home town of Waterville, had stabbed his wife, then fatally shot his two young children and himself at his home in Swanton Ohio. An autopsy revealed that Jack was on psych-prescribed Zoloft at the time of this senseless and horrific massacre. Toledo Blade Newspaper Coverage

Needless to say, Laraine’s personal experiences with psychiatry ended in tragedy…an outcome all too common in the field of mental health. She decided people should have the opportunity to learn the truth before they come to harm, not after it’s too late.
